PROJECT OVERVIEW

Industry: Footwear
Services Provided: Logo Design; Style Guide; General Visual Identity
IN BRIEF
Gola Sweetgrass is a start-up South Carolinian sandal company whose mission is to educate and preserve the history of Sweetgrass baskets within the Gullah/Geechee culture and create a comfortable, high-quality sandal that reflects lowcountry living. We were tasked with developing a mark that embodies the Gola Sweetgrass ideals and mission.
What We Did
The Logo
The Gola logomark was developed by combining symbolism straight from Gullah (and, in turn, African/Adinkra) culture. The symbol for ‘royalty/greatness’ and the symbol for ‘God’s child’ not only relates to the roots of the company and the culture that inspires it, but the way the logomark is rendered represents a handmade, specialized quality. The logomark also represents the southern sun, warm & friendly people, and taking a little piece of Gullah home with you to all parts of the world.
The logo’s typography also compliments the mark by boasting a friendly nature (doesn’t it just look like the ‘g’ is waving hello?!) that harkens stylistic qualities of island life and hand-crafted artisan treasures.
Supporting Brand Elements
In addition to the logo design, we developed a custom Gola Sweetgrass color palette, brand typography guidelines, and logo lockup guidelines to accommodate future collection names and location expansions.

TL;DR
We made a sunny, hot logo and other visual stuff for a basket weave sandal company!
